Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Johnathan Stone! Johnathan is a recipient of the 2022-2023 Stem Bridge Scholarship.
Johnathan Stone is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is majoring in mechanical engineering but hopes to narrow his major to aerospace engineering while pursuing higher education. During his bachelor’s degree, he was fortunate enough to participate in the McNair Summer Research Internship. His research project pertained to a self-healing composite that uses nickel-titanium and its shape memory properties. This composite material has many applications, one of which pertains to his field of interest, in aerospace engineering. This experience has been ideal in his path to a Ph.D. It has taught him all the necessary skills on how to develop a research essay, presentation, and poster. This is his first research project. It has shown him how true interest and love for a career can be his choice. He is thrilled to see where this composite goes in the future and the advantages that it can bring to the aerospace community. Because of his participation in the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program with the assistance of Dr. Nathan Salowitz, he hopes to complete an article that shows the mechanical properties of a single fiber composite involving nickel titanium and tin bismuth.
Congratulations, Johnathan, and best of luck in your future!
