      Minnesota Space Grant Consortium announced the “Secret Message Challenge” for the 2025-2026 Midwest High-Power Rocketry Competition taking place May 16-17, 2026. Information meeting on September 15 at 7 p.m. Non-binding NOIs are due September 30.  WSGC teams can apply for funding through the National Competitions and Programs funding opportunity.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium will host the 34th Annual Wisconsin Space Conference on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Student Union in Milwaukee, WI.

The conference kicks off at 7:30 am Friday with a continental breakfast. Special guest speaker includes Waukesha, WI, native, Dr. Michelle Thaller, Assistant Director for Science Communiation at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, who will discuss the United States, “Return to the Moon.” Throughout the day, attendees will hear about NASA partnerships, student research, K-12 outreach, academic and industry research, and WSGC team projects. There will be a poster and networking session and an awards ceremony.

PLENARY SPEAKER: DR. MICHELLE THALLER Official portrait of Michelle Thaller at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC on Tuesday, Aug. 2, ...
Dr. Michelle Thaller is an astrophysicist and science communicator with over two decades of experience at NASA. Michelle began her career as a post-doctoral researcher at Caltech, studying the lifecycles of massive stars. Michelle began to Propulsion laboratory, and organized an education and public outreach group that specialized in infrared astronomy. Goddard Space Flight Center in the roll of Assistant Director of Science, specializing in communications. After three years at NASA Headquarters working in communications for the Science Mission Directorate, she returned to Goddard, where she is currently the liaison between the Office of Communication and the Science Directorate. Outside her work at NASA, she has appeared in many television science programs, including How the Universe Works and le has done two TEDx talks, is a frequent contributor to the Big Think podcast, and hosted the program Orbital Path on national public radio for three years. Michelle is a two-time winner of the Robert Goddard award, as well as the Women in Aerospace, Telly and Webby awards.

TO REGISTER TO PRESENT:

Presenters should complete the online WSC24_Presenter Registration form by July 15, 2024. Approximately 25 awardees will share the results of their project or program during the oral presentations. All other student participants will participate in a dynamic Poster Session where peers will highlight some of the best STEM-related research taking place on Wisconsin campuses.
